Bill has been a member of the accounting profession for some 50 years.  He has a wide range of experience without pretending to be a specialist in any particular area. His specialty is solving difficult problems faced by businesses in a practical and commonsense way. In particular, his negotiation skills help provide the best outcome for his clients.

 

His interests outside the accounting profession have given him a wide ranging viewpoint, which enables him to understand and assist clients in relation to their business affairs generally.

 

These activities include the following:

Private Forestry ownership, Director and Secretary of a Vineyard and winery project in the Upper Hunter, share investor, spec home builder, motor racing driver, active participant in sailing, skiing, tennis, golf, husband of Margaret, father of three boys and grandfather of Zoe, William & Archer.

 

Samuel H K Shun

Speaks fluent Cantonese

Sam, having "escaped" from the Communist Mainland China, arrived in Australia in 1962.  After completing his HSC, he joined the chartered accountancy profession and has now been working with Bill Stanley for the past 33 years.

Being a partner in a small/medium sized firm, Sam has always maintained an interest in all facets of the accounting profession in order to keep abreast with the constant changes of all the relevant rules and regulations.

 

He oversees the auditing and related compliance matters of all of our DIY superannuation funds. He is also in charge of quality control of all tax returns lodged within the firm.

 

He has a love of sport of all codes and has been trying to 'master' the game of golf for the past 35 years.

 

He is happily married to Lucy for over 28 years and has two adult sons.

Michael A Goodrick

Michael started with Stanley & Williamson in 1984 as a junior accountant and progressed through the ranks until he was appointed as a partner in 1990. He has a large level of experience in structuring of businesses, capital gains tax, small business concessions, superannuation and allocated pensions and all levels of tax legislation relating to small to medium sized business. Michael is able to provide advice on all business matters.

 

Married to Sharon with four young children, his main interests outside of work revolve around his children's sport and activities.

 

Enjoys all sports with a particular interest in rugby union (he used to play for West Harbour RUFC) and golf.  He would love to become a professional golfer if only he had the ability. Michael has also served on various not-for-profit and community boards.

Darren M O'Malley

Darren joined Stanley & Williamson in May 2002 and became a partner on 1 July 2003. He has spent the past 15 years in the profession assisting clients ranging from individuals to small and medium businesses with general accounting, taxation and business needs.

After a few years of exploring career options, Darren completed a business degree in 1992. He commenced his accounting career in a small practice in Wagga Wagga and has since gained diverse experience in the business advisory divisions of large firms in Adelaide and Sydney advising businesses across a broad spectrum of industries.

 

Darren has recently completed a Master of Taxation degree and has a high level of expertise in all areas of business taxation and superannuation. He also has the experience and skills to help with general business advice.

 

Darren is married to Christine and between them they have five children and two grandchildren. Outside of work, Darren spends much of his spare time training towards an elusive sub 4 hour marathon.

Benjamin R Barter

Ben first joined Stanley & Williamson in 1996 and except for a working holiday in the United Kingdom has worked with Stanley & Williamson ever since. He was appointed as a partner on 1 July 2003. Ben's primary training was in audit services and he became a qualified chartered accountant in 1998. As one of the junior partners Ben can assist clients with the whole range of business services, tax, accounting, audit and information technology services.

Ben grew up in Armidale in rural NSW, has now settled in Sydney and is married to Kylie, they have two young daughters. His interest outside work are cycling and getting out and about as much as possible. Ben has a particular interest in computers and new technologies in this area.

Quang Tat

Partner

 

Born Saigon, Vietnam in 1979

Educated: Australia, Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws

Member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia

Fellow of The Taxation Institute of Australia

 

Quang joined Stanley & Williamson in May 2002 and was appointed as a partner on 1 January 2009. He graduated from his combine degrees of Commerce and Laws in 2001 and spent a year with Grant Thornton Sydney before moving over to Stanley & Williamson.

 

Quang has at least 8 years of experience in the profession and has developed a particular interest in Capital Gain Tax, Small Business Taxation, Fringe Benefits Tax and Salary Packaging. He has experience in business services, tax compliance, business structuring and financial modelling.

 

Outside of work, Quang likes to spend most of his time with his wife and son at the beach and plans to play professional hockey again. His other interests include travelling, and learning to sail and surf.

 

 

Our History

Our founding Senior Partner Mr Bill Stanley has been in private practice since 1962.

 

Stanley & Williamson has been established since 1980.  Prior to that year Messrs Stanley, Williamson and Shun were three of the partners in a four partner firm practising as "Gibb Stanley & Co.", which was established in 1969.

 

Mr Sam Shun joined Gibb Stanley & Co. in 1973 became a partner in 1979.  Mr Michael Goodrick joined our firm as a junior accountant in 1984 and became partner in 1990. Messrs Ben Barter and Darren O'Malley became partners on 1 July 2003. Mr Quang Tat became partner in January 2009.

 

Mr Weston Williamson retired from our firm in 1987 and now lives in the United Kingdom and assists us when required.

Our practice is conducted from one central office in Kirribilli, New South Wales, which is within Sydney's central business district. Our clients find the location very handy as it is only 100 metres from Milsons Point station while still providing ease of parking to attend our office.
